Terumah [תרומה], pronounced Ter-oo-maw, is the 19th portion in the study of Torah. The portion is from Exodus 25:1- 27:19. And for free, the Haftarah
Portion is 1 Kings 5:26(12)-6:13 and the Gospel is Matthew 12:46-13:58. Such a deal! Right!
Let’s just focus on verses 1 and 2 of Exodus 25. From the TLV (Tree of Life version):
1 ADONAI spoke to Moses saying,
2 “Tell Bnei-Yisrael to take up an offering for Me. From anyone whose heart compels him you are to take My offering.”
First, it must be said: every version I looked at, sixteen different versions, they all said the same thing. That The Holy One SPOKE! If anything the first words of this portion should make your ears perk up and Shama (listen as if your life depended on it)!
Next, verse 2! Short study, I know, but look at what we uncover! First, HaShem (The Name [G-d]) tells Moshe (Moses) to tell the Children of Israel…. This group, the Children of Israel, are your people… If you are believers in the G-d of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob… it is time to understand that all of these words that are being spoken here are coming from The One Who Sits Upon The Throne. These instructions
are to the bride, straight from the Bridegroom King!
To the Children of Israel HaShem says to take up an offering for Him! Terumah is the Hebrew word for “Contributions” or “offerings”. It is also known
as “offered by lifting”. Hold that thought, now let’s pick apart the Hebrew letters:
Tav ,ת, : Mark, sign, cross, ownership, seal, covenant, join two things together, the last
Reysh ,ר: Head, person, what is highest, most important, chief
Vav ,ו: Nail, peg, hook, join together, make secure, becoming bound
Mem ,מ: water, mightily, massive, deep water, flowing water
Heh , ה: Behold, to show, to reveal
Terumah comes from the root word “ruwm”,רום, meaning “exalted”. The first we see this in scripture, is in Genesis 7:17. The earth is flooded and
this verse says about His ark, — the ark “and it was lifted up (exalted)(ruwm) above the earth.”
This is the terumah that G-d wants from the Children of Israel, this offering is to be exalted! After all, it is for The Creator of The Universe! So, one might ask, “What is this offering I am to lift up today?” “In 2016?” Let’s examine the next sentence of verse 2 and see if we can understand a little more. From anyone whose heart compels him you are to take My offering. Two words, in the Hebrew, from this sentence seem to
speak a little more, The word “heart”, in the Hebrew, comes from the word, “leb”(לב 💖 ) meaning: inner man, mind, will, heart. The first “leb” is used in scripture
is in Genesis 6, right before the flood, ….HaShem regretted that He made humankind on the earth; it grieved His heart (leb).
The next word follows in this version, “compels”. This word is from the Hebrew, nadab (נדב), which
means: gives it willingly, whole heartedly, moved, offered, volunteered, to incite, impel.
Notice yet? Notice the Messiah? If you continue through the next few verses before construction of the Tabernacle begins, you get a nice detailed
list of what items the children of Israel were to bring. What might HaShem be really looking for here? He desires the “terumah” from a “willing heart“, a
“moved inner man”, a “volunteered mind”. Look again at the word terumah. Using the pictograph above, get a vision: The offering itself is the sign of what is most important, and it should be joined together and made secure, to reveal the flowing living water from the Throne. Whew! How great is that!
In Matthew 23, Yeshua (Jesus) speaks in verse 19, “O blind ones! Which is greater, the offering or the altar that makes the offering holy?”. Here Yeshua
gives a “tabernacle” reference on speaking of what makes the offering Holy. It all goes back to the impelling heart.
On speaking of “Covenant with your Wife” {think of this as your covenant with your maker, your Husband—then you can personalize it to your individual
situation} Malachi 2:13: “Secondly, you do this: Tears cover the altar of ADONAI— you are weeping and groaning because He no longer accepts the
offering or receives it favorably from your hand. If this is your case, stop, repent, “Go and sin no more”(-Yeshua), keep reading His Word…you cannot go wrong on His Path! May we also remember forgiveness before you bring your offering to the altar as Yeshua speaks about in Matthew 5.
What makes this portion kind of exciting is that this exalted, willing, offered heart that comes before the Throne of Glory is going to build an actual portable Sanctuary, or Tabernacle, that will be “home” for the Presence of G-d for the next 40 years {this is what the “offerings” were for}. Why? His desire is to “Tabernacle” with us! It’s why we were created. Think of the Glory of it all! Here is your opportunity to connect with your own Tabernacle! If you have the Messiah then you have a
Sanctuary that needs its offering, the kind that comes from whole hearted man (or woman). Set yourself apart today, from the world that is!
