Monday evening at sun down marked the first full day of the month of Elul on the Hebrew calendar. Elul literally means “to search”. Each day during the month of Elul, it is custom to blow the Shofar as a reminder to look into your soul, search your deeds, so that you may make confession, repentance, teshuvah!
So let’s take some time to explore the sixth month, Elul…. After all, we are the bride! Every bride should know her Bridegroom!… From the Bible (Exodus 32-34:35), here is a little history: When Moses went up to Mount Sinai, the first time, to receive the Tablets with the 10 Words (commandments). We all know that when he came back down he observed the people sinning by creating the Golden Calf and participating in other sinful activities centered around the worship of that idol! He broke that first set of tablets and ascended Mount Sinai a second time and remained there for another forty days and forty nights, praying to God to spare the people and to return with His full Presence among them. Adonai showed Moses His Glory! At the conclusion of the second forty day and night period (29th of Av—which was 8/15/2015), God forgave the Children of Israel, called Moses up again to Sinai and inscribed a second set of tablets. When Moses went up for this set of Words, on the first day of the Sixth Month (Elul), the Shofar was blown in the camp. They did this to impress upon themselves that they would not again make the tragic mistake in judging the time of his return and fall in to idol worship.
“The Season of Teshuva”! Haggai 1:7, says “Think about your life”! This time of repentance leads up to The High Holy Days! Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Sukkot! These are holidays created and endorsed by The God of The Bible! Celebrated by Yeshua (Jesus), The Messiah! Immediately following this time of Teshuva (repentance) is Yom Kippur, also known as The Day of Attonement. This being a time when the records/”books” God keeps are closed and new ones are opened. The desire is for our names to be written in the Book of Life! (Praise the Lord for Yeshua! By His Blood we can be certain of this!) We are called to be a Royal Priesthood, A Holy Nation! To cry out with John, ” I am The voice of someone crying out: ‘In the desert make the way of Adonai straight!” This season of searching our hearts, beloved is–the “desert”.
Let the examinations begin!! Ezekiel 8:1 begins on the fifth day of the sixth month (Elul) of the sixth year—
Ezekiel was sitting in his house with the leaders of Judah and the hand of Adonai Elohim fell on him!… This is serious business! If the hand of the Most High God fell upon you, I believe you take notice!
“I looked and saw what seemed like a man made of fire. From what appeared to be his waist downward was fire, and from his waist upward was what appeared to be a gleaming amber-colored brilliance. The form of a hand was put out, which took me by a lock of my hair (OUCH!), and a spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven and brought me, in these visions from God, to Jerusalem, to the entrance of the inner [courtyard] gate that faces north. There stood the idol that [arouses God’s] jealously and provokes [his] zealous indignation. “ Ezekiel 8:2-3
Just let that description of Adonai, The Father of all Creation just soak in…taken by a lock of his hair as well! To the place where Adonai has put his name! And there He opens Ezekiel’s eyes to injustice! His Righteous Anger! Can you imagine….
“Then he ask me, “Human being, do you see what they are doing, the horribly disgusting practices that the house of Israel is committing here, so I must distance myself from my own sanctuary? But you will see even worse abominations” -Ezekiel 8:6
So Adonai takes Ezekiel to the entrance and takes him to a hole in the wall and tells him to “dig in” to the hole. So after digging he sees a door and Adonai says, “Go in, and see the wicked practices they are engaged in here.” Ezekiel sees all these idols carved on the walls—all around—repulsive animals, images of all kinds of reptiles, he even saw the 70 elders of the house of Judah there. In the center of it all were Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan. Shaphan, a scribe, who just a generation ago (in 2 Kings 22), brought the Torah before the king, read it to him and was lifted up before the people! He brought the Word of The Lord back to Judah during King Josiah’s reign. Now his son is in charge and look what has happened! Abominations in the House of the Lord!
We can’t stop now…however, it may get a little uncomfortable…Beloved, He is worth it!
“ Human being, did you see what the leaders of the house of Israel are doing in the dark, each one in the room of his own carved image, because they say, ‘Adonai can’t see us; Adonai has left the land’?” He also said to me, “You will see even worse abominations than what they are doing.” Ezekiel 8:12-13
“He brought me to the entrance of the north gate to Adonai’s house and there before me were women weeping for Tammuz. “Human being—have you seen this? You will see practices even more disgusting than these.” Ezekiel 8;14-15
So Adonai takes Ezekiel to the inner courtyard of Adonai’s House, at the entrance to the temple no less, were about 25 men with their backs to the temple facing and worshipping the s-u-n!
“Human being, have you seen this? Does the house of Judah consider it a casual matter that they commit the disgusting practices they are committing here, thus filling the land with violence, provoking me still more? Look! They are even putting a branch to their nose! Therefore I will act in fury, my eye will not spare, I will have no pity. Even if they cry loudly right in my ears, I will not listen to them.” Ezekiel 8:17-18
Idols, carved images, even the elders! A generation that went astray! Leaders doing things behind closed doors with their “carved images” —This is sounding familiar…even today. *Warning**This is going to sting: In verses 14 -15 Ezekiel sees “women weeping for Tammuz”. Have you ever wondered who this actually is? I did a little research and discovered that Tammuz is the fourth of the twelve months of the Jewish calendar. The month of Tammuz begins the “season” of the summer. The three months of this season are Tammuz, Av and Elul. Tammuz is also believed to be a Sun God… from Last Trumpet Ministries…Enjoy:
“”Ishtar”, which is pronounced “Easter” was a day that commemorated the resurrection of one of their gods that they called “Tammuz”, who was believed to be the only begotten son of the moon-goddess and the sun-god. In those ancient times, there was a man named Nimrod, who was the grandson of one of Noah’s son named Ham. Ham had a son named Cush who married a woman named Semiramis. Cush and Semiramis then had a son named him “Nimrod.” After the death of his father, Nimrod married his own mother and became a powerful King. The Bible tells of of this man, Nimrod, in Genesis 10:8-10 as follows: “And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth. He was a mighty hunter before the Lord: wherefore it is said, even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the Lord. And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.” Nimrod became a god-man to the people and Semiramis, his wife and mother, became the powerful Queen of ancient Babylon. Nimrod was eventually killed by an enemy, and his body was cut in pieces and sent to various parts of his kingdom. Semiramis had all of the parts gathered, except for one part that could not be found. That missing part was his reproductive organ. Semiramis claimed that Nimrod could not come back to life without it and told the people of Babylon that Nimrod had ascended to the sun and was now to be called “Baal”, the sun god. Queen Semiramis also proclaimed that Baal would be present on earth in the form of a flame, whether candle or lamp, when used in worship. Semiramis was creating a mystery religion, and with the help of Satan, she set herself up as a goddess. Semiramis claimed that she was immaculately conceived. She taught that the moon was a goddess that went through a 28 day cycle and ovulated when full. She further claimed that she came down from the moon in a giant moon egg that fell into the Euphrates River. This was to have happened at the time of the first full moon after the spring equinox. Semiramis became known as “Ishtar” which is pronounced “Easter”, and her moon egg became known as “Ishtar’s” egg.” Ishtar soon became pregnant and claimed that it was the rays of the sun-god Baal that caused her to conceive. The son that she brought forth was named Tammuz. Tammuz was noted to be especially fond of rabbits, and they became sacred in the ancient religion, because Tammuz was believed to be the son of the sun-god, Baal. Tammuz, like his supposed father, became a hunter. The day came when Tammuz was killed by a wild pig. Queen Ishtar told the people that Tammuz was now ascended to his father, Baal, and that the two of them would be with the worshippers in the sacred candle or lamp flame as Father, Son and Spirit. Ishtar, who was now worshipped as the “Mother of God and Queen of Heaven”, continued to build her mystery religion. The queen told the worshippers that when Tammuz was killed by the wild pig, some of his blood fell on the stump of an evergreen tree, and the stump grew into a full new tree overnight. This made the evergreen tree sacred by the blood of Tammuz. She also proclaimed a forty day period of time of sorrow each year prior to the anniversary of the death of Tammuz. During this time, no meat was to be eaten. Worshippers were to meditate upon the sacred mysteries of Baal and Tammuz, and to make the sign of the “T” in front of their hearts as they worshipped. They also ate sacred cakes with the marking of a “T” or cross on the top. Every year, on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the spring equinox, a celebration was made. It was Ishtar’s Sunday and was celebrated with rabbits and eggs. Ishtar also proclaimed that because Tammuz was killed by a pig, that a pig must be eaten on that Sunday.”
I know this all sounds familiar to you. It blew my mind when I first read it all. I continued on and checked out the “Ancient Book of Jasher”(which is a pretty interesting book—actually ties stories, from the Torah {Bible}, together where there are gaps..fyi). Nimrod was given “garments” from his father Cush that gave him great power. He fought battles for his brethren, delivered them from their enemies, was made king, had subjects, built himself cities, even the tower of Babel! Here is how the book of Jasher sums up Nimrod:
And Nimrod dwelt in Shinar, and he reigned securely, and he fought with his enemies and he subdued them, and he prospered in all his battles, and his kingdom became very great. And all nations and tongues heard of his fame, and they gathered themselves to him, and they bowed down to the earth, and they brought him offerings, and he became their lord and king, and they all dwelt with him in the city at Shinar, and Nimrod reigned in the earth over all the sons of Noah, and they were all under his power and counsel. And all the earth was of one tongue and words of union, but Nimrod did not go in the ways of the Lord, and he was more wicked than all the men that were before him, from the days of the flood until those days. And he made gods of wood and stone, and he bowed down to them, and he rebelled against the Lord, and taught all his subjects and the people of the earth his wicked ways; and Mardon his son was more wicked than his father. And every one that heard of the acts of Mardon the son of Nimrod would say, concerning him, From the wicked goeth forth wickedness; therefore it became a proverb in the whole earth, saying, From the wicked goeth forth wickedness, and it was current in the words of men from that time to this.” —Jasher 7:44-48
Nimrod seemed to be glorified by the people. His great power, might, and influence caused a seduction among the offspring of Noah. Can you hear it now?…”Wow!… Look at him!… He’s got it all!…Wonder how he does it?… I’ll just try it his way for a while…maybe I could be like him!” Looks to me like the statement “from the wicked goeth forth wickedness” is right on the money. Look how the wickedness of following other gods, namely the sun and the moon-gods, has provoked a whirlwind of religious practices today. I was taught to believe in Christmas, Easter and all the holidays of the “church”. My parents were taught this way by their parents…and so on. These “joyous” occasions that say “Jesus is The Reason”! Full of Traditions! Smiling happy faces all stemming from another god. The scripture is clear, these “religious” practices are rooted in what Adonai says are “horribly disgusting practices”, “filling the land with violence”, “provoking” Our Bridegroom to Anger, causing Him not to hear our cries. Which God are you following? Head to the “wilderness” beloved. It’s time for some repentance! This is what this season is for!
Still need a little more understanding? Luke Chapter 3, it was in the sixth month again, Elul. Yeshua was just immersed and The Spirit was upon Him. Yeshua immediately went into the wilderness for 40 days to pray and be tempted, to “examine” Himself, to “prepare”, to remain the Spotless Lamb! After this time, Yeshua returned to the Galil “In the power of the Spirit” He went to the synagogue as usual and spoke these words from the Prophet Isaiah:
“The Spirit of Adonai is upon me; because he has anointed me to announce Good News to the poor; he has sent me to proclaim freedom for the imprisoned and renewed sight for the blind, to release those who have been crushed, to proclaim a year of the favor of Adonai” Luke 4:18-19

The background photo I took on my Israel 2014 trip. It is Sh’mron. The place where God’s Holy Tabernacle once sat. The olive groves below are where we harvested for the Israeli farmers.
As His Chosen bride, Now! is the time to renew your sight, release forgiveness, make Teshuva! (Repentance!) If you are His and He is yours, then The Spirit is upon you. Go into the wilderness, think about your life. Cry out to the Father! There is freedom, renewed sight, and Shalom on the path to the Kingdom!
For now I leave you with this to meditate on. The Aitz Chayim (Hebrew עץ חיים, meaning “Tree of Life”). The expression, originates in Genesis 2:9. It is also found in the Book of Proverbs, where it is figuratively applied to “the Torah”–Yeshua! (Proverbs 3:18). Yeshua, Our King, is The Tree of Life! Grab Hold and Never Let Go!
Aitz chayim hi lamachazikim ba, Vetomecheha me-ushar.
Deracheha – d’rechei no-am, Vechol netivotecha shalom… Hashiveinu Adonai eilecha v’nashuva
Chadeish chadeish yameinu k’kedem, Chadeish chadeish yameinu k’kedem…
and in English:
A tree of life to those who hold fast to it, and happy are those who support it.
Its ways are ways of pleasantness, and all its paths are peace.
Turn us Lord to you and we shall come. Renew our days as of old…..
