When I was around Kindergarten age I cut my hair, right in the front. My mother, then cut the rest of my hair to match, it wasn’t pretty, there is a photo, somewhere…  As a young mother, I remember waking up one morning to find some beautiful locks of golden red hair in the bathroom trash can (I left the scissors in the bathroom drawer). Yes, I panicked.   There was another day, an envelope came home from school with my youngest daughter. A note from the teacher was on the outside saying something to the effect of how “sorry she was” that another little girl decided to cut some of my child’s hair during class.  Inside the envelope,  the hair! I wasn’t sure what I was supposed to do with the hair but it was a fun story to tell.

We know very well that scissors, although needed, can be very dangerous in the hands of a child. A two-year-old with a pair of scissors poses a threat to themselves and everyone around them. The child, however is clueless about these dangers.  When it comes to Torah,  We are like children and HASHEM (G-d) is the parent. He makes the rules of His House and we are to follow. When we run around like children with a weapon, thinking we know it all yet being clueless,  we become dangerous to ourselves and those who listen and follow us. Yeshua (Jesus) followed the will of His Father, and so should we.  Let’s continue to grow in maturity of Torah. Knowing Messiah is a beautiful thing! If you are to be His Bride when He returns, you should really get to know The Rules of the House. This is how “relationship” works.

This week’s parsha,  Ki Tisa is a week of great personal conflicts and prophetic challenges. You can find the Torah portion in Exodus 30:11-34:35.  Everybody I know has a bible, get it out and read this. This portion deals with UNITY! Our Nation needs this! My friends, Torah is a love story! 💗 Complete with obstacles of all kinds…. No love story is complete without them. This portion deals with the sin of the Golden Calfdespair that blankets the camp, but it ends with Divine Mercy, Compassion, Forgiveness, and Recollection. Sound familiar? Sounds like Messiah/Happily Ever After to me! The true nature of HASHEM is this Unshakable, Unbreakable Commitment to His Bride. And there is nothing that will change His Mind!

As in Exodus 6:7, many times we are told, “I will take you to Myself as a people, and I will be your God. You will know that I am HASHEM your God, who brought you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians“.  Even in the book of Hebrews(8:10),  “For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says Adonai . I will put My Torah into their mind, and upon their hearts I will write it. And I will be their God, and they shall be My people.”
Let’s explore just the opening sentence in the Hebrew text to see if we can gain a better understanding of what HASHEM has called us to do and be. 👑

Here is the Hebrew, with translation below:

כִּי תִשָּׂא אֶת-רֹאשׁ בְּנֵי-יִשְׂרָאֵל, לִפְקֻדֵיהֶם, וְנָתְנוּ אִישׁ כֹּפֶר נַפְשׁוֹ לַיהוָה, בִּפְקֹד אֹתָם; וְלֹא-יִהְיֶה בָהֶם נֶגֶף, בִּפְקֹד אֹתָם.

When you take the sum of the sons of Israel to number then shall give every man a ransom for his soul to the L-rd when you number them that that not there be among them plague when you number them.

If we look a little closer Ki Tisa, the name of the portion translated, “when-you take“, here is what we uncover.
Ki (כי), pronounced “kee” can also mean because, that, for, and when.
Tisa (תשא), comes from the verb root nasah, meaning to lift, carry, or take.
💎So one could very well say this to read:  because you lift, that you carry, when you lift.
The sum (ראש), rosh in Hebrew, means head.
The “sons of Israel“, of course, is the Children of Israel, so pay attention🚩 (if The G-d of Israel is your Father).
“Paqad” (פקד) is the root of the phrases to number, when you number, and again when you number. Three times in one verse–this also means pay attention🚩
Kopher (כפר), “a ransom” comes from the root “kaphar“, meaning to cover, appease.
For his soul” comes from the word nefesh  (נפש). Nefesh can mean soul, living being, life, self, person, desire, passion, appetite, or emotion
Last but not least, the dreaded plague😧. Negeph (נגף), meaning plague,  comes from the root Nagaph meaning to strike, smite, defeated.

HASHEM is talking to Moses here, it says so in verse 11. Verse 12 is more than taking a census. (Counting people does not seem to make HASHEM very happy⚠ Leads to plague).  I’m thinking we, as the children of Israel, are to take/lift our heads to Our Father, submissive to no other, as a bride to her husband. To the One who is the head of the house.  Giving Him a portion of what it is that most dear to us; our life, our passions, our desires.  He in turn, like any good Husband would do, He takes that portion and builds upon it.  ~The donation of the half shekel here in Exodus was used for the silver sockets that was the foundation of the Tabernacle.  He uses the portion to unite His People. To provide for them a covering. Sharing in achieving  a goal.  “Passing through” the census is giving up on our selfishness and seeing what is best for all! All so He can show us His Glory!

Shalom,
Hallelujah Girl
