The Accounting’s

With the joys of tax time upon us in the U.S.A, I discover each year that good record-keeping skills come in very handy.  I must admit, this is not a great passion of mine. I very much enjoy the creative side of my daily work way more than the accounting’s.

This week as we open up the Torah to this week’s Portion of Study, this portion actually finishes out the book of Exodus. Pekudei, פקודי, is translated “the accounts of” or “the accounting’s”.  A “balancing of the books” one might say. Pekudei is usually read with last weeks portion Vayakhel. Since this is a leap year, the portions are seperated. I must encourage you to read Exodus 38:21-40:38. When you finish you must say, “Chazak, Chazak, VenitChazek!” ( Be Strong, Be Strong, and May you be Strengthened! ). ~This is just tradition, but I kind of like it 🙂 How good and pleasant it is for brothers, and sisters, to dwell together in Torah!

So Pekudei is an actual accounting of all the contributions for the mishkan (The Tabernacle). Here is the first verse, Exodus 38:21:   These are the accounts of (pekudei) the tabernacle, the tabernacle of the testimony, recorded, as Moshe ordered, by the L’vi’im (Levies)  under the direction of Itamar the son of Aharon, the cohen (High Priest).  Paqad, פקד, is the root word of Pekudei, and it means to pay attention to, closely observe, visit, to muster, to pass in review, pass under the rod, closely inspected, evaluated, judged, to poke, probe, palpate. The first time we see paqad in the scripture is in Genesis 21:1 Then the Lord visited (paqad) Sarah as He had said and did for her as He had promised.. This account of the Tabernacle should be considered intimate accountability!

Here we have this nation of people who have just brought all their precious belongings, so much so, that they were told to stop bringing! We have Enough!  Now Moses, along with Itamar recording, will closely inspect and account for  items that total today around $15,000,000.00.

Shall we spend a moment on the transparency of good government. Moses is held accountable by The Holy One and at “the moment of truth” he had absolutely nothing to fear of man. Look at Numbers 16. Korach along with other descendants of Re’uven:… took men and rebelled against Moshe. Siding with them were 250 men of Isra’el, leaders of the community, key members of the council, men of reputation. They assembled themselves against Moshe and Aharon and said to them, “You take too much on yourselves! After all, the entire community is holy, every one of them, and Adonai is among them. So why do you lift yourselves up above Adonai’s assembly?….When Moshe heard this he fell on his face. Then he said to Korach and his whole group, “In the morning, Adonai will show who are his and who is the holy person he will allow to approach him. Yes, he will bring whomever he chooses near to himself….. 15 Moshe was very angry and said to Adonai, “Don’t accept their grain offering! I haven’t taken one donkey from them, I’ve done nothing wrong to any of them.”   Moses was victorious! His books were all in order, he made a full accounting of all proceeds and use of the contributions.  He would not rely on assumptions , for leaders must be beyond reproach and must keep accounts of the funds that pass through their hands. Moses was blameless. The wrong, they were destroyed.     For now ~No worries, someday, Yeshua will reign! And the government will be upon His Shoulders! Remember~By The Father, Yeshua fed the 5000 people with only 5 loaves and 2 fish and according to John’s calculations (John 6)  had 12 baskets full of leftovers!

It is probably a good time to remember that this mishkan being built is all according to EVERYTHING THAT G-D COMMANDED. I counted 19 times that is said in this Torah Portion Pekedei. The point is this was a mirror image of the Sanctuary that is in Heaven! Right here, On Earth as it is in Heaven! This is where His Shekinah will dwell! This is where the Word is! There is only one entrance! And you have to pass through the Shepherd’s Gate!

As for tax season… Hebrews 13:17 says, Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they keep watch over your souls as ones who must give and account. And let us not forget the Words of Our Bridegroom Yeshua in Matthew 22:21, “Give therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s”.

Happy Day! Shalom,

?Hallelujah Girl
