Judgement

Please follow and like us:

We all know what it is like, dealing with our past mistakes. Our sins and bad decisions leave broken relationships and emotional messes behind us. We run from the problem and hope it will go away. As they say, “time heals all wounds”. Sometimes time only aggravates old wounds.
This is what happens with Jacob. After some twenty years of labor, Jacob is finally free from Laban’s mistreatment and is returning to the land of Canaan. However Jacob must confront another angry relative, Esau.  And Esau wanted Jacob dead.  Our portion “Vayishlach” begins, “Then Jacob sent messengers before him to his brother Esau, to the land of Seir, the field of Edom.” Genesis 32:3 (4).
When Jacob fled to Rebekah’s (his mother) homeland, she told him to stay until Esau’s anger had subsided and she would send for him. (Genesis 27:44-45) Well she never sent for Jacob and Esau was still pretty upset.
So Jacob, hoping his brother’s heart had softened sent messengers to announce his homecoming. The messengers returned to Jacob letting him know that Esau was coming to meet him with an army of 400 men! (Genesis 32:6).
The solution, when we must deal with mistakes, is to deal with them when we make them. Make amends immediately! Acknowledge our mistakes, correct them, and do our best to fix it.  Yeshua teaches, “Make friends quickly with your opponent” (Matthew 5:25) lest the situation get worse.
Just as Jacob had to eventually face Esau, we will eventually answer to our adversary’s (haSatan) charges. That serpent has a claim against us that we can never escape. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of G-d” (Romans 3:23). We all face judgement.

Shalom, Hallelujah Girl!
