Being in the Presence of Royalty changes everything about us. The way we think about ourselves and what is going on in the world. It changes the way we spend our time. It changes the tone in which we speak to one another. It changes the subject matter of what we speak about. It changes the way we dress. It changes what we eat or drink, the way we entertain ourselves, and even the way we enter or exit a room. This beloved is exactly what is happening on the Eighth Day in the Tabernacle in the wilderness. The Holy One has come down among His People!
When you explore this weeks Torah Portion you find a short chapter about a woman who gives birth and another chapter on leprosy. I must admit, the two do not seem like they go together. Welcome to Tazria. This weeks study of Torah! Blessed be the Holy One! Tazria, תזריע, means to give birth or she conceived. When you explore a little deeper you will discover that Tazria comes from the root verb zara, זרע, meaning to sow, scatter seed, bear, conceive seed, set with sower, yield. We first find this word used in scripture in Genesis 1:11, when the Holy One brings forth plants yielding seed.
Last week the Holy One gives a rundown on all the clean and unclean animals. Pointing out to us what makes us pure and fit to come into His Presence. Now we see the Holy One speaking to Moses saying, “Speak to the children of Israel, saying, ‘When a woman has conceived (bears seed), and given birth to a male child, then she shall be unclean seven days, as in the days of her monthly separation she is unclean. ~Leviticus 12:2
The first thing to do with this is look at this title, Tazria. If the root of the word is zara. Zayin, Reysh, Ayin. The zayin is the picture of a sword, an ax, a weapon, to cut, to pierce. The reysh represents the head, a person, what is highest, most important, chief. The ayin shows us the eye, look, appearance, to see, understand, experience, to be seen, a fountain. Let’s paint the picture! Cutting to what is most important to understand. The gematria or number value of this word adds to a total of 277. The number two indicates a union or division and the number seven is considered the perfect number. Any time we encounter the number seven in Scripture we are to think Creation! Now the “seed” is becoming easier to understand.
Let’s look a little more at this verse. We know that conceives refers to zara, or seed. “Given birth” comes from the root word yalad, ילד, meaning to bear, bring forth, beget, or father. “A male child” originates from the verb root zakar, זכר, meaning remember. So one might read this verse When a woman bears seed and brings forth a remembrance. “Then she shall be unclean” originates from the word tame, טמא, pronounced “taw-may”, meaning defile self, pollute self, make self, pronounce unclean, unfit for temple service. (this goes back to Gen 34:5, and how Dinah was defiled). “Seven” is the hebrew word, שבע, sheba (pronounced sheh’-bah). “seperation” is niddah, נדה,(pronounced nid-daw), meaning impurity, menstrual period, or uncleanness. It seems it might be good to pay attention to the fact that we see the word unclean twice here in Scripture.
Most are familiar with what happened in the Garden, after the fall, the Holy One said he would put enmity between the seeds. Genesis 3:15 reads, “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed. He shall crush your head, and you shall crush His heel. Her seed, zarah, the root word of our portion is what will crush the serpents head. This is no ordinary seed beloved! There is no mention of a father in this verse. Isaiah, 7:14 says, “Therefore the Holy One Himself gives you a sign: Look, the maiden conceives and gives birth to a Son, and shall call His Name Emmanuel. Michah 5: 3 and Revelation 12: 5 both speak of she, a woman, who bears a male! Paul writes in Galations 4:4-5, “But when the fullness of time came, the Holy One sent out His Son, born of a woman and born under Torah—to redeem those who were under the Torah, in order to receive the adoption as sons.” The Gospels of Matthew and Luke both tell the story of the virgin birth. Every one of these scriptures connect us right back to Leviticus chapter 12.
Even today, the birth of a son, in Jewish tradition is a promise of Messianic Redemption. Every morning, 365 times a year a loyal Jew is praying Hannah’s song;
“My heart exults in Adonai,
my horn is lifted high in Adonai.
I smile wide over my enemies,
for I rejoice in Your salvation.
There is none holy as Adonai,
for there is none besides You,
nor is there any rock like our G-d.
Boast no more so proudly—
insolence comes out of your mouth.
For Adonai is the all-knowing G-d,
and by Him deeds are weighed.
The bows of the mighty are broken,
but the stumbling are girded with strength.
Those full hire themselves for bread,
but those starving hunger no more.
Even the barren gives birth to seven,
but she with many sons languishes.
Adonai causes death and makes alive,
He brings down to Sheol and raises up.
Adonai makes poor and makes rich,
He brings low and also lifts up.He raises the helpless from the dust.
He lifts the needy from the dunghill,
to make them sit with nobles,
granting them a seat of honor.
For the earth’s pillars are Adonai’s,
and He has set the world on them.
He guards the steps of His godly ones,
but the wicked are silenced in darkness.
For one does not prevail by might. Those who oppose Adonai will be shattered.
He thunders against them in heaven.
He judges the ends of the earth.
He gives strength to His king,
exalting the horn of His anointed one.” 1 Samuel 2: 1-10
In the Presence of the Holy One, purity is a necessity in how you draw near. Being clean, or spiritually fit for Tabernacle service is a basic Torah concept. The Tabernacle is to be on earth as it is in Heaven. How seriously do we take stock in the cleanness of our own spiritually. The Holy One was pretty specific about His House. Miriam (Mary) and Joseph followed everything according to Torah. Yeshua Himself proved time and time again, that He also was to be about His Fathers House. Following Torah, the example of Our Messiah Yeshua, we come before His Royal Presence with complete confidence. Knowing that He is our atonement (covering).
Happy Day,
Hallelujah Girl
