From Him the whole body is fitted and held together by every ligament. The proper working of each individual part produces the body’s growth, for building itself up in love. ~Ephesians 4:16

The degalim (banners/standards) had profound spiritual significance then and now. These were not the familiar royal flags or banners of today. These banners were designed and displayed by Heavenly Direction. According to the midrash when the Children of Israel rested under the degalim the Shekinah descended and elevated the camp to new heights of kedusha (Holiness). They were a people who lived as an organized unit ready to serve the Holy One.

Who is she who shines forth as the morning, Fair as the moon, clear as the sun, Awesome as an army with banners? ~Song of Solomon 6:10

The memory of the degalim was never forgotten. Seriously, what does your “religion” have to offer that compares to the greatness that the forefathers experienced in the Wilderness. The Torah, the “law”, is a banner like no other. Displayed with pride and dignity this banner offers life. If we lose sense of raising the standard of Torah then you begin to reject it, therefore rejecting the Messiah Yeshua who gave His Life to fulfill the words of Torah.

Each tribe maintained it’s banner fulfilling it’s objectives and goals that were mandated and they did so with enthusiasm. They did not dissent, they did not protest, and they did not try to exchange responsibilities with their neighbor.

The insignias on their banners corresponded to the twelve signs of Heavens. They corresponded to the four sides of Jacob’s (Israel’s) coffin and the four directions of the compass. The four signs (four groups of three) symbolize the four forces of nature as represented by the signs in Ezekiel’s vision (Ezekiel 10): the face of the man in the east, the lion in the south, the ox in the north, and the eagle in the west. These also point to four living creatures that surround the Throne in The Revelation of John 4:7-8.

Community is much more important to the Holy One than we may think. Just as Ephesians, the proper working order of each individual produces growth. When a community is divided, obviously there is no growth, no support, no building up in love. Just as the Holy One commanded the Children of Israel, Raise your Standard! Raise up Torah in your lives, in your families, in your marriage, and in your community. It is after all, the banner of love!

If it seems bad to you to worship the Holy One, then choose for yourselves today whom you will serve—whether the gods that your fathers worshipped that were beyond the River or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will worship the L-rd!” -Joshua 24:15

Happy day,

Hallelujah Girl!
