Recently I was privileged to hear a message from Rabbi Jeremy Storch at the Tabernacle in Branson (link is listed below), titled Holiness and Keeping Kosher. Several times he states, “Don’t let anyone judge you”. Time and time again following Torah I have found it to be a much less traveled road by the masses. Everyone has their own opinion about what the Holy One meant when He spoke. I like to think of it as the Holy One meant what He said when He said what He said. It is our honor as His children to seek out what He meant in His Word. Yeshua used many parables in teaching His Father’s Torah and they all stem from the words of Moses.
This week as we study the Parashah “Toldot” meaning descendants, results, proceedings,
generations, genealogies, begettings, account, and/or history. The Hebrew verb root from which the word toldot is derived is yalad. That verb root means to bear, to bring forth, to beget, to
engender, or to travail. The Hebraic word picture the verb root yalad, ילד, presents is that of the Divine Hand [yod], wielding the cattle prod [lamed], causing something to go through a door or
passageway or orifice [dalet]. The first Biblical usage of the verb yalad is found in
Genesis 3:16. There, the Holy One told Eve: “I will greatly multiply your pain in childbirth.
In pain you will bring forth [yalad] children.”
In reading through the portion I came across a few verses that stood out to me, but first a preview.. A famine has forced Isaac to leave his home, but the Holy One commanded him to a direction other than Egypt. In turn, He assured Isaac to ‘sojourn in this land’ and he would receive sufficient blessings.
“Live as an outsider in this land and I will be with you and bless you—for to you and to your seed I give all these lands—and I will confirm my pledge that I swore to Abraham your father. I will multiply your seed like the stars of the sky and I will give your seed all these lands. And in your seed all the nations of the earth will continually be blessed, because Abraham listened to My voice and kept My charge, My mitzvot , My decrees, and My instructions.” ~Genesis 26:3-5
The Holy One established an oath with Abraham and it was inconceivable that He would not keep His Word. The gift of the Land is attributed to Abraham’s loyalty in the four categories of commandments listed in verse 5.
Kept My Charge (Safeguards): the decrees that serve as barriers against the restrictions of the Torah.
My Mitzvot (Commandments): laws that man’s moral sense would have dictated or determined such as robbery or bloodshed.
My Decrees (Statutes): laws that reason cannot explain. These matters are those the evil inclination within all of us will criticize, such as keeping kosher (dietary laws, like eating swine’s flesh). There is no explanation of these, the Holy One just says don’t do it.
My Instructions (My Torahs): The written and oral laws, including the rules and interpretations given by Moses at Mount Sinai.
The Holy One seemed to bless Abraham with the knowledge of the entire Torah and he observed it voluntarily. Paul explains in Romans 2 that it is not the “hearers” of the Torah that are righteous before the Holy One it is the “doers” who will be justified. By “doing” they show that Torah is written in their hearts. How fortunate we are to possess a written copy of what is already engraved upon our hearts. Not to mention, Yeshua our Messiah, removed the partition so we have direct contact to The Holy One. The blessings are for the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The Covenant was fulfilled with the blood of Our Savior.
Don’t let anyone judge you! Because Abraham listened to the Voice of The Holy One, kept His Charge, His Mitzvot, His Decrees, and His Instructions, he was blessed! The Truth is at your fingertips.
Some Rabbinic teachings derive the word Torah from the Hebrew word harah , הרה, meaning “conceive”. Just as an embryo grows from a seed that is implanted at conception, so to does the Holy One’s teachings plant a seed which developed in the recipient to an even greater good.
Happy day,
Hallelujah Girl 🙂
