From the Sages, “One should not say ‘ I cannot stand the meat of swine.’ Instead one should say, ‘I desire it, but my Heavenly Father has forbidden it'” (Toras Kohanim cited by Rashi, Leviticus 20:26)

“If one abstains from forbidden foods because they are repulsive, then if something would bring about a change in one’s attitudes and tastes, one may be likely to eat them.  Furthermore,  if one abstains from things that are forbidden because they are not appealing,  one is essentially fulfilling one’s own will. It is only when we abstain against our will and out of obedience to the Divine commandment,  that we are fulfilling the Divine will.  The fundamental  requirement of the Holy One’s Redeemed is to do the will of G-d rather than our own.”

This portion of Torah, Acharei Mot, contains many “laws” or loving instructions.  Our Father, the Creator of the Universe, has given these to bless us with everlasting life. We, as believers, have a blessed covering in the blood of Yeshua that protects us in many ways. The ultimate objective of the laws contained in the book of Leviticus are to raise us to the level of a Kingdom of Priests and a Holy Nation. The Holy One “called” Moses in Leviticus 1:1 just as He calls you and me. Yeshua stated in John 5:46, “For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me, since he wrote about Me. But if you do not believe his writings, how shall you believe My words?”

Leviticus 17 is explicit that we are to have only One altar. “Then Adonai spoke to Moses, saying: “Speak to Aaron, to his sons, and to all Bnei-Yisrael , and say to them: This is the word which the Holy One has commanded. Anyone from the house of Israel who slaughters a bull, a lamb or a goat in the camp or outside the camp, but has not brought it to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting to offer it as a sacrifice to the Holy One before the Tabernacle—let bloodguilt be charged to that man. He has shed blood—that man is to be cut off from among his people.” –Leviticus 17:1‭-‬4.   These regulations were for all the children of Israel.  They may have been directed to the priests that deal with the prohibitions against offering sacrifices outside the Tabernacle, but the word says for all! It was only after the Children of Israel entered the Holy Land that they were allowed to eat meat for pleasure and only through Kosher slaughtering.

Leviticus 17: 10-16 is pretty clear that our diet is to be different from the rest of the world. Leviticus 17:14 says, “For the life of every creature, its blood is in its life. Therefore I said to Bnei-Yisrael : You are not to eat the blood of any kind of creature, for the life of every creature is its blood. Whoever eats it is to be cut off.  Blood is translated from the Hebrew word dam (dawm), דם. The best definition of a Hebrew word comes from where you first find it in scripture. Genesis 4:10 is where we first find the word dam, “And He said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to Me from the ground.”    There is life in the blood beloved! To not properly slaughter an animal or to eat of an animal that has not been properly slaughtered, the chance you take is being “cut off“.  Karath (kaw-rath), כרת,  is defined as to be cut off, cut down, cease, completely cut off, perish, or destroyed. This is serious business!  After the flood, the Holy One made a promise of a new covenant and this is where you first find the word karath, “And I shall establish My covenant with you, and never again is all flesh cut off  by the waters of the flood, and never again is there a flood to destroy the earth.” ~Genesis 9:11

Consider Torah to be a training program if it helps. Training us to be a worthy bride of the Messiah Yeshua.  He is coming back soon, to rule and reign and “cut off” you Do Not want to be! Let the instructions found in Leviticus train you in your service, your diet, and your spiritual purity. We are called to physically and morally build up the Kingdom of the Holy One. G-d does not tolerate rash violations of His laws. He is everywhere and there is no secrecy with Him.  No secrecy in the heart or any other place. Taking a closer look at Leviticus 18 we, as believers, are Not to adopt Any of the ways of our pagan neighbors.

And the Holy One spoke to Mosheh, saying, “Speak to the children of Yisra’ĕl, and say to them, ‘I am the Holy One your Elohim. ‘Do not do as they do in the land of Mitsrayim, where you dwelt. And do not do as they do in the land of Kena‛an, where I am bringing you, and do not walk in their laws. ‘Do My right-rulings and guard My laws, to walk in them. I am the Holy One your Elohim. ‘And you shall guard My laws and My right-rulings, which a man does and lives by them. I am the Holy One. ~Leviticus 18:1‭-‬5

Torah is to become and remain our lifestyle. Our Messiah Yeshua fulfilled Torah, it is how we gain entry to the wedding supper of the Lamb! Imitating our pagan neighbors is not in the plan. Verse 3 above says,  Do not do as they did in Egypt. Solomon is referring to the Holy One’s bride, Israel, in Song of Solomon 2:2 when he writes, “Like a lily among thorns”. Whatever the nature of the pagan’ laws or customs, DO NOT FOLLOW THEM!  Feel free to repent, read your bible, let it change you. For the Holy One says, OBSERVE ONLY MY COMMANDS AND YOU SHALL LIVE!  See the word man again in verse 5? Yes, this is the same all encompassing man (adam), אדם, any man! This means you!

Modesty and sexual wholeness, or purity, are also to be carefully guarded. Keeping our eyes, minds, hearts, and other body parts unpolluted by the uncovered “nakedness” of anyone (or any creature) other than our heterosexual spouse (Leviticus 18:6-23).  All around the world abominations of this kind are happening. If you believe that this is ok, think again!

‘Do not defile yourselves with all these, for by all these the nations are defiled, which I am driving out before you. ‘Thus the land became defiled, therefore I punished it for its crookedness, and the land vomited out its inhabitants. ‘But you, you shall guard My laws and My right-rulings, and not do any of these abominations, the native nor stranger who sojourns among you, because the men of the land who were before you have done all these abominations, and thus the land became defiled, ‘So let not the land vomit you out for defiling it, as it vomited out the nations that were before you. ‘For whoever does any of these abominations, those beings who do them shall be cut off from among their people. ‘And you shall guard My Charge, so as not to do any of these abominable practices which were done before you, so as not to defile yourselves by them. I am the Holy One your Elohim.’ ” ~Leviticus 18:24‭-‬30

The Holy Land is even predisposed to the revelation of the Divine Spirit, to prophecy, to miracles. The Land itself does not even tolerate these abominations and thus rejects them. Our court systems here on earth are supposed to have responsibility to prevent these abominations from occuring. It should be their duty to “guard My Charge“, to protect the Holy One’s laws. To keep men, all men, from sin and make them conscious of the seriousness of these prohibitions.

Beloved, your call is real! If you believe in the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and The Messiah Yeshua, these instructions set forth to the Children of Israel are just as much for you. The blood atonement was for your protection, to enter in without fear of death, but for life eternal! Following anything other than the words of Our Creator will only lead to destruction. Choose life!
