Torah Is Everything!

I was ask this week from one of my clients if I was turning Jewish.  Pleasantly surprised,  I responded, “Well, you know ‘Jesus’…He was Jewish.”

Over time many have confused the very things that man has “made up” with what HaShem (G-d) has made. Speaking the words, “It’s all about relationship”, yet sadly,  are only in relationship with the world. The Jews (those that study) understand the written Torah (which is All about Yeshua), the Christians (those that study) have an understanding of the physical Yeshua. Neither seem to have the fullness of this glorious Bridegroom-King!  Without Yeshua and without Torah, you have no Truth! So therefore you are left with, your own way.  The I Want Everything,  I want it my wayMaterialism mentality.

HaShem desires unity with and among His People.  This unity is magnified in this week’s Torah Portion, Ki Tisa  (Exodus 30:11-34:35). The beginning of the portion starts out with HaShem telling Moses, “When you take the census of the children of Yisra’ĕl, to register them, then each one shall give an atonement for his life to HaShem, when you register them, so that there is no plague among them when you register them. “Everyone among those who are registered is to give this: half a sheqel according to the sheqel of the set-apart place, twenty gĕrahs being a sheqel. The half-sheqel is the contribution to HaShem. “Everyone passing over to be registered, from twenty years old and above, gives a contribution to HaShem. “The rich does not give more and the poor does not give less than half a sheqel, when you give a contribution to HaShem, to make atonement for yourselves. “And you shall take the silver for the atonement from the children of Yisra’ĕl, and give it for the service of the Tent of Meeting. And it shall be to the children of Yisra’ĕl for a remembrance before HaShem, to make atonement for yourselves.”
Exodus 30:12-16

We’ve already looked at the beginning verse When you take the census.  It may be loosely translated and could very well read When you lift the head. So now comes the giving part. HaShem wants a half sheqel, a ransom, an atonement, a covering (these are the definitions for the Hebrew word kopher, כפר). This half a sheqel is to HaShem. It is an atonement for himself, his own life, his own soul, his very nefesh (נפש).  Why a half a sheqel?  My guess is 1/2+1/2=1. Did you notice how everyone, whether rich or poor, is to give the same amount? This sheqel was not to count us, it was to show us unity.  This lifting of the head and bringing the silver is two halves becoming one. See the relationship?  Remember,  all the silver given formed the sockets which held together the foundation of the Tabernacle. Unity!

This isn’t just any census. HaShem never wanted us to count people. Counting people leads to plague.. just think about it…  “And I shall make your seed as the dust of the earth, so that, if a man could count the dust of the earth, then your seed also could be counted.” This is what HaShem spoke to Abraham in Genesis 13:16. I believe there are also references to the sand of the sea, the hairs of your head, and the stars in the sky!  King David dared to number the people and when he did, HaShem was not happy. The bible shares His thoughts, “And it was evil in the eyes of Elohim, concerning this matter, and He smote Yisra’ĕl.”..you can get the full story in I Chronicles 21. This is verse 7.

Consider Matthew 17,

When they had come to Capernaum, those who received the temple tax ( the half-shekel of silver mentioned in Exodus 30) came to Peter and said, “Does your Teacher not pay the temple tax?”
      He said, “Yes.”
And when he had come into the house, Yeshua anticipated him, saying, “What do you think, Peter? From whom do the kings of the earth take customs or taxes, from their sons – or from strangers?”
Peter said to Him, “From strangers.”
Yeshua said to him, “Then the sons are free. Nevertheless, lest we offend them, go to the sea, cast in a hook, and take the fish that comes up first. And when you have opened its mouth, you will find a piece of money; take that and give it to them for Me and you.”

Have you ever notice that the ‘temple tax’ which the men who accost Peter are trying to collect in this story is the same ‘half-shekel of silver’ per person mentioned in Exodus 30?
Now look closer.  Notice that Yeshua says there will be, in the fish’s mouth, ONE COIN.  Note also that this ONE COIN is to be given to the collectors of the ‘temple tax’ on behalf of both Peter and Yeshua. The ‘tax’ of Exodus 30 requires payment of exactly one half-shekel (of silver, pursuant to the holy measurement) per person. The coin was supernaturally provided in the mouth of the fish must, therefore, since it will suffice for two people, weigh one whole shekel.

Everything about the Tabernacle of HaShem is based upon things that are whole – not halved. It would be unfitting to use a half-shekel coin.  Something – or someOne – must make the half-shekel become whole.
SomeOne must provide that which we lack. SomeOne must cover our insufficiency, and complete our ‘atonement’.  Each of us provides only a half-shekel.  In Whose Name is the other, corresponding half-shekel – the half-shekel that completes our atonement – provided?  It is provided, for each of us as it was for Peter, in the Name of Yeshua.

Without joining our half-shekel to Yeshua’s our atonement is incomplete, insufficient, and inadequate.  But the Holy One’s mathematics are supernatural. He allows Yeshua to provide the other half-shekel for all of us!
Taking a census then, in the few instances when it was directed, was always designed by HaShem to lead His people to look forward to the coming Messiah – the one who would pay the price to make their half-shekel whole, and make it sufficient for atonement.

Unity only happens when you smash the “Golden Calf” (idolatry) in your presence, lift your head and be counted among those who’s ransom has been paid by the attonement.  It is your covering.  Just like the 1/2 sheqel was to turn us from, “I Want Everything ” to “Here, Take it All!”   It brings us away from materialism (the idols), sets us apart,  and becomes everything we need.  Torah is our covering, our atonement!  Yeshua fulfilled the words of Torah. The grave couldn’t hold Him because there was no sin in Him. The accusations were there, but He was spotless.    If you want to know the Truth, go back the beginning. May we all focus our attention and energy on what HaShem has called us to do and be.
Happy day,
Hallelujah Girl
