When Friday comes around, say about 3:30-ish , can you start to feel the excitement in the air around you. The traffic outside picks up, some are getting off work. People begin to even walk a little faster! The end of the work week is here! This is the Spirit inside you that is stirring for that day of rest. That Sabbath Peace! The Seventh Day! The One day that is set aside to do nothing! My favorite day of the week! SHABBAT! (שבת)

Once upon a time there was a lot of confusion, and people wanted to celebrate in different ways.  There were some who had gods of their own they wanted to worship. This “Constantine” thought he’d be some kind of hero and combine some of what HaShem (The Name, of G-d) said with what the people wanted (pretty sure there were some “pride” issues here) and life as we know it, well, just keeps getting more and more messed up. I found a great link to understanding a little history of this situation below. To make a long story short the Sabbath (Hebrew, Shabbat) was changed.  Yes, I know this might sting, but the “church” made a terrible decision to play like they were HaShem.

This week’s Torah Portion, Ki Tisa, Moses is given the instructions on counting the Redeemed, the Laver (the large copper basin), the Announcing Oil, Bazalel  (whom HaShem gave His “Holy Spirit” to) and his role in the building of the Tabernacle. In addition to the work that must be done on the Dwelling Place of HaShem, Moses has the Tablets and we have this issue of The Golden Calf that must be dealt with. In everything that is happening HaShem throws in, Don’t Forget My Sabbath!

And HaShem spoke to Mosheh, saying, “And you, speak to the children of Yisra’ĕl, saying, ‘My Sabbaths you are to guard, by all means, for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, to know that I, HaShem, am setting you apart. ‘And you shall guard the Sabbath, for it is set-apart to you. Everyone who profanes it shall certainly be put to death, for anyone who does work on it, that being shall be cut off from among his people. ‘Six days work is done, and on the seventh is a Sabbath of rest, set-apart to HaShem . Everyone doing work on the Sabbath day shall certainly be put to death. ‘And the children of Yisra’ĕl shall guard the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations as an everlasting covenant. ‘Between Me and the children of Yisra’ĕl it is a sign forever. For in six days HaShem made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.’ ” And when He had ended speaking with him on Mount Sinai, He gave Mosheh two tablets of the Witness, tablets of stone, written with the finger of Elohim.
Exodus 31:12-18

HaShem actually has now repeated the words, For in six days HaShem made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed for the third time since the Beginning, right here in this portion! Reminding the Children of Yisra’ĕl, with everything I gave you to do, on the Seventh day, rest! You have been counted among My Redeemed. There is nothing else I want you to do this week.

Let’s  examine the Hebrew text:
My Sabbaths:   this is plural meaning every Sabbath
by all means:    aken (אכן) meaning certainly, never the less, surely, truly.
guard:   shamar (שמר), keep, preserve, beware, body guard, defend, pay attention, take heed.
sign:   avah (אוה) to sign, mark, describe with a mark, point out, to extend or mark out.
Set apart: kadosh (קדש), apartness, sacredness, most holy, consecrated, dedicated, set apart. …This is what the angels around the throne sing, “Kadosh, Kadosh, Kadosh, Adonai Tzva’ot”  (Holy, Holy, Holy, is the L-rd G-d Almighty!
Everyone who profanes it:   chalel  (חלל), to pierce, defile, break
Put to death:  muth (מות), worthy of death
Observe:  asah  (עשה), meaning also, accomplish, advance, appoint, apt, be, at, become, bear, bestow.
Covenant:   comes from barar meaning make bright, choice, chosen, cleanse, give meat, be clean, clearlt, polished, purify, purge out.
Forever:   olam (עולם): long duation, antiquity, always, Everlasting,  permanent, Eternity.

The disciples refer to Shabbat, that it was made for man and that Yeshua Himself is L-rd of Shabbat.   ~”Then He said to them, “ Shabbat was made for man, and not man for Shabbat. So the Son of Man is L-rd even of Shabbat.”
Mark 2:27-28.  Matthew agrees  ~”For the Son of Man is Lord of Shabbat.”
Matthew 12:8

The sixth day (Thursday sundown, until Friday at sundown) is known as the Day of Preparation.  ~Now it was the Day of Preparation, and Shabbat was approaching. The women who had come with Him from the Galilee followed, and they saw the tomb and how His body was laid. Then they returned and prepared spices and perfumes. But on Shabbat they rested according to the commandment.
Luke 23:54-56

One of the definitions of the word covenant was to feed meat. Notice how HaShem says to Isaiah, if you turn I will feed you …this my friends, is the Covenant! ~“If you turn back your foot from Shabbat, from doing your pleasure on My holy day, and call Shabbat a delight, the holy day of Adonai honorable, If you honor it, not going your own ways, not seeking your own pleasure, nor speaking your usual speech, then You will delight yourself in Adonai , and I will let you ride over the heights of the earth, I will feed you with the heritage of your father Jacob.” For the mouth of Adonai has spoken.
Isaiah 58:13-14

So there remains a Shabbat rest for the people of God. For the one who has entered God’s rest has also ceased from his own work, just as God did from His. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one may fall through the same pattern of disobedience. Hebrews 4:9-11

Shabbat (the Sabbath) is a gift! A Divine Gift. You will never understand it until you give in and do it! The Sabbath is a small taste, a glimpse of what Heaven will be like! HaShem is calling you,  “Be with Me, let Me Feed you, rest, become Mine, Forever”.

Happy day!
